Food & local life

Food & local life

Rice and curry, hoppers, spice gardens and time spent with local hosts.

Illustrative image

Sri Lankan food is bright, spiced and made to be shared: a table of small curries around rice, string hoppers at breakfast, fresh seafood on the coast.

Beyond the plate, we can include cooking with a local family, a visit to a spice garden or a village walk, so the trip stays connected to everyday life.

When and how

  • Food is part of every day of the trip, so it fits any season and any route.
  • Tell us about allergies, dietary needs and how adventurous you are before you travel, and we plan meals around them.
  • A cooking session or a meal with a local host works best when it is planned in advance, with time to talk.

Travel responsibly

  • Eat where local families eat, and buy from local sellers and small producers
  • Ask before photographing people at work, in kitchens and at markets
  • Take what you will eat and avoid waste
